Most of us spend so much time talking, grieving and being angry about the closed door in our lives, we don’t see the open door. Les Brown, legendary human-potential expert, says our trials and disappointments can take us all to a door of discovery and greatness. Brown shows you how to:

Be Thankful. It’s easy to think about what is missing and ignore what you have. When you develop an attitude of gratitude, you begin to view things from that positive light and start working toward making something happen. Giving up is not an option you can entertain.

Be Thoughtful. When things go wrong, don’t go with them. As you look at yourself, you have to harness your will, you have to be grounded, you have to pause and you have to go within. Begin to clear your head and give yourself permission to accept the reality that is happening. And then turn the page and start working toward where you will go from there.

Be Active. Matt Jones, one of my speakers, wrote a book with the message: If you’re going through hell, don’t stop. Keep moving. Start with small steps and build from there. When you are not active and you’re not engaging in life, you have a tendency to worry and regret and to engage in less-than-useful emotions. It’s very important that you start moving and working and doing things that can give you some headway. The more active you are, the less chance you have of becoming depressed, angry and immobilized with fear.

Be Connected. Many times, people fail because they can’t see the picture when they are in the frame. They think there is no way out. These are people who are disconnected and feel isolated and desperate. But interacting with others provides a number of benefits, including helping us find new paths and new ideas to explore.

Be Patient. Don’t expect instant results. Plug away carefully and consistently, and keep the mindset that things are going to get better even though you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. We are living in a microwave society where we want instant results. But it’s not that kind of party. Patience and a spirit of expectation and trust will help you work to reach your goals and dreams.

The World Has Changed and So Have We

You are probably tired of even hearing the word “economy”. For the past year, it’s been holding hands with its friend, “bad news”. But if the tougher economy has prompted you to wake up and take a serious look at your priorities, you can reap all sorts of benefits. Here, our experts weigh in:

Tony Robbins on growth: “Crisis and extreme stress can be useful for growth, learning and determining what matters most to us. Sometimes your worst day can be your best day if it produces a change.”

Wayne Dyer on mindset: “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at eventually begin to change. Mental health is about flexibility, it’s about having an awareness that, If this isn’t what I’m doing, I’ll be doing something else.”

Jillian Michaels on health: “If you want to save money on your health and wellness costs, invest in preventative measures.” She suggests: “killer, cost-free workouts” such as incline walking, stair climbing or jump-roping.

Amanda Gore on relationships: “Hardships remind us to reconnect our head with our hearts, and our hearts with other people’s hearts.”

Dave Ramsey on your business: “Sometimes we have to be pushed out of our nest in order to fly. There are a lot of eagles out there that hadn’t spread their wings in a while.” He says businesses that got away from doing what made them their first buck is just one example. “Creative juices are flowing again.”

He’s had enormous success as an entrepreneur, and for more than a quarter century, he has been helping people to have better lives with his Successful Life Course.

Here are some of his principles for having a terrific day every day:

“Life comes to you every day and says, Here’s the menu for the day. You can either have a terrible day or a terrific day. And you get to choose the side of the menu you are going to take.”

Put something positive in your mind when you first wake up. “When you first awaken, you’re at the alpha level of your subconscious mind, which is the maximum brain energy learning level. And whatever you put into your mind during those first few minutes begins the programming of your day.”

Take a walk in the morning to watch the world wake up. “Observe the beauty in nature around you, smell the freshness in the air, begin to appreciate and give thanks for the many blessings you enjoy.”

If you are thinking about unhappiness or adversity, change the channel. “I tell people to think about what you’re thinking about. And if you’re not thinking good thoughts, then change the channel to what you want to have happen.”

“My definition of success is the difference between where you are and the use of your full potential. Each of you has a multiplicity of talents, and you need to exercise all of your potential to reach your dreams,” Hansen says.

' >

A message from SUCCESS Publisher Darren Hardy…

I want to offer you the most important insight on achieving what you want in 2009…

When asked what has been the biggest secret behind any success I’ve had, my answer is this: my system for designing, following through and achieving big goals.

I have studied the process of setting and achieving goals vigorously for 20 years now. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars attending seminars, reading books, listening to audio programs and interviewing super-achievers on how they do it. After much of my own real-world trial, error and achievements, I synthesized all this knowledge and experience into a system I have used for myself.

Years ago I taught this system in a training class that cost $49 to attend. My SUCCESS editors have helped me develop the program into a book and achievement planning system called Design Your Best Year Ever — A Proven Formula for Achieving Big Goals.

We want you to have this program, so we are offering the complete 164-page book and achievement planning system, with a complimentary audio introduction, for a limited-time price of only $19.97 (reg. $49.97).

This system will also help you:

- Avoid the fatal mistake most make in setting goals. Most people set themselves up for failure and don’t even know it, which is why they don’t achieve what they want.

- Go from goal-setting to goal-achieving. There is what I call the “magic factor” that makes the big difference in obtaining your goals.

- Why 95 percent of people give up on their New Year’s resolutions within 2-3 weeks and how to ensure you don’t suffer the same fate.

- How to invoke your creative power to attract the people, circumstances, resources and guidance you need to achieve your wildly ambitious goals.

Setting and achieving goals is the single most important skill you can develop to achieve all you want in life. There isn’t a better $20 investment than acquiring the exact formula on how to design and achieve big goals for 2009, and beyond.

See a video introduction and read the first section of the book here: Design Your Best Year Ever

Here’s to your best year ever!

The latest issue of SUCCESS just hit the newsstand! This issue features Lance Armstrong on Winning the Race of Life.

Darren Hardy, publisher of Success Magazine just added a great blog post about this issue. You can read it here: http://darrenhardy.success.com

Lance Armstrong is a world-famous athlete, seven-time Tour De France winner and cancer survivor. He is an inspiration to anyone who has ever battled the odds. Here’s what he learned along the way.

Know your purpose, and don’t give up. Armstrong eventually saw his cancer as something he was given for the good of others. When faced with obstacles, he wants people to “fight like hell, just like I did.”

Work on your mind. Coming back after cancer, Armstrong had to do more than get his body in shape. “Real healing meant getting my mind in shape. But it also meant getting my confidence and priorities in shape, too.”

See the good in every adverse situation. There was an unforeseen benefit to Armstrong’s cancer. The disease completely reshaped his 6-foot body and left his upper body smaller and leaner, which made him better suited for riding up mountains. Armstrong says he was leaner in body and, eventually, more balanced in spirit.

Stay in lock step with your passion. Armstrong developed a passion for the steep climb on his bike and off. Realizing his entire life was “meant for a long, hard climb,” he has used his newfound insights to dominate his sport.
